Jessica Bell, Sexual Assault Program Director at Beyond Abuse, recently participated in and completed Project BEST. Project BEST is a state-wide collaborative effort to use innovative community-based dissemination, training, and implementation methods to dramatically increase the capacity of every community in South Carolina to deliver evidence-supported mental health treatments (ESTs) to every abused and traumatized child who needs them. Project BEST is coordinated by the Dee Norton Lowcountry Children’s Center in Charleston, SC and the National Crime Victims Research and Treatment Center of the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC. Bell completed a nine month training program to become qualified to provide Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TFCBT). She is also now qualified to supervise other clinicians who provide TFCBT and is listed on a roster of professionals across the state of SC that are trained in providing TFCBT. Mrs. Bell holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Lander University and a Masters in Social Work from the University of South Carolina. She recently celebrated her 10 year anniversary with Beyond Abuse.

Creating a warm, safe, and healthy environment to heal
Beyond Abuse’s facility is in need of a facelift. Our victim service areas have worn and stained carpet that needs to be replaced. Our therapists often conduct age appropriate floor based activities with child victims. Our wish is to replace these carpets with vinyl wood look flooring that will be more durable as well as easier to maintain and keep clean ( see pictures). The cost is approximately $6500 for the entire project, but we have a potential grant that would fund the 1st $5000. So we are asking for support of the additional $1500. We have attached pictures for you to see our conditions. I would only ask, “Would you like for your child to play on these floors”? Our desire is to make our facility as pleasant an experience as possible for persons who have already experienced a huge trauma in their lives.
Please log onto GreenwoodGives.org and help us reach our goal to raise $1500. The funding period will end Jan 15th 2015.
BELK Charity Days event – Nov 8th
/0 Comments/in Uncategorized/by director“The Charity Sale is a private, four-hour sale dedicated to supporting local non-profit organizations. Participating charities will have the opportunity to raise money for their organization by selling event tickets at $5 each and keeping 100% of ticket proceeds. Ticket holders will receive 20% – 70% off of Belk purchases storewide, including special savings on rarely-discounted brands. It is a win-win! Belk’s two Charity Sale events in 2013 together raised more than $10 million for thousands of participating charitable organizations located in Belk’s 16-state market area.”

A message from SCCADVASA -VAWA – 20 years old
/0 Comments/in News/by directorMost women experience physical abuse in their lifetime. In fact, nearly one-quarter of women experience a physical or sexual assault by an intimate partner and seven in ten assaults against women are perpetrated by an intimate partner. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the landmark Violence Against Women Act. Let’s raise awareness of this heinous plague and do something to encourage everyone to protect our mothers, sisters, daughters, girlfriends, wives and grandmothers. It’s time.
If you haven’t done so already please sign the petition and pass along to your local folks as well. The petition was created by the National Network to End DV.
