AAT has new Handler/Animal Team

Please help us welcome Joy Edwards and her boxer Axel to the Animal Assisted Therapy team at the agency!  Joy works at Self Regional Healthcare and her in her spare time will be working with our therapy staff to provide counseling services to victims.

Eclipse 8 21 17

The staff took a few minutes to observe the once in a lifetime total eclipse today!!!  What an experience!  We actually saw the squirrels rtn to their nest and heard the tree frogs start singing.

 

Eaton makes donation August 2, 2017

Beyond Abuse was one of many local non profits who recently received grants from The Eaton Charitable Fund.  Beyond Abuse was awarded $5400 to assist in the purchase and installation of perimeter fencing in order to improve client and staff safety.  Donations to assist with this project may be made to:

Beyond Abuse has the following open position:

FORENSIC INTERVIEWER

 

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Reporting to the Children’s Advocacy Program Director, the Forensic Interviewer performs tasks specific to the growing needs for victims of child physical and sexual abuse within Abbeville, Greenwood, Laurens and Newberry Counties.  In this role s/he will provides forensic interviews and related services for child clients referred by Law Enforcement, DSS or the Solicitor’s Office.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Masters Degree in counseling, social work or related field with licensure or in process of licensure.
  2. Successful completion of Child First South Carolina.
  3. Ability to relate to individuals and groups in an empathetic, non-judgmental manner. Also, should have the ability to relate to individuals and groups of all cultural backgrounds.
  4. Knowledge of the impact and dynamics of sexual violence and child abuse and the trauma of child victims and their non-offending family members.
  5. Possess excellent communication and office skills.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Conduct and complete documentation for referral screenings, intakes, scheduling services and provision of services.
  2. Conduct forensic interviews of children in cases of suspected child abuse.
  3. Complete written summary reports of the forensic interview and provide to the appropriate investigative agencies involved in the case.
  4. Coordinate with members of the multidisciplinary team, including attendance of case review staffings.
  5. Testify in court regarding the forensic interview as required by subpoena; provide expert testimony as needed by members of the multidisciplinary team.
  6. Provide information and consultation to area professionals and community members regarding child abuse
  7. Maintain accurate and current records and statistics.

We are everywhere! – Clinton Night Out Aug 1, 2017

Family Advocate Deanna Kelly ( in right) gets into the action at the recent Clinton Night Out on Aug 1, 2017 at the Lydia Mill Village.  The fun filled event gives local service agencies a chance to share information about their services.   

Family Night – “Oh what a night!” Aug 1st, 2017

Approximately 150 children and adults enjoyed the festivities of Beyond Abuse’s 2nd annual Hispanic Outreach Event which included face painting, inflatables, corn hole, music and the oh so fun DUNKING BOOTH.  Notable favorites were our Board President, Travis Dover who was the first to “take the plunge”, followed by Greenwood County Sheriff, Dennis Kelly.  Hotdogs and hamburgers rounded out the fun filled night.  Greenwood School District 50 was a favorite with their back packs and school supplies.   Meg’s House, Healthy Learners, Cornerstone, and Community Initiatives were in attendance to share information on the services their agencies provide.

Laurens County Office – Grand Opening Ceremony

Thanks to everyone who attended and helped us celebrate the grand opening of the new office in Laurens County located at 23013 Hwy 76, Clinton, SC  29325.  This is a significant milestone in the history of the organization, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, and will allow us to better serve victims in Laurens and Newberry Counties.

Representatives from partner agencies including the 8th Circuit Solicitor’s Office, the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office, Clinton Public Safety, DSS and Beckman Mental Health along with many others joined in the festivities.  Guest speaker was Solicitor David Stumbo.
