Congratulations to our competitive BOD and BOV for their victory over agency staff in raising the most $$$$ in tips at our recent Mr. John’s Pizza night held Oct 22 2015.    We collectively raised over $1100 for the operational needs of the agency which was higher than the amount raised in the previous year.

Survivors Finding Voice Exhibit comes to Greenwood 10 22 15

Mandated Reporter Training held 10 22 15

Brenda Myers with the Children’s Law Center conducted training for staff and community on mandated reporting Oct 22 2015 at the Greenwood County Library.  Approximately 45 people participated in the training.  The training was coordinated by Children’s Advocacy Director, Charlotte Ehney.

Emergency Clothing Drive

During the Sexual Assault Evidence Collection Kit process, victims’ often times have their clothing collected for evidence purposes.  In order to increase the victim’s comfort, Beyond Abuse provides new sweat suits to victims to avoid victims having to wear paper hospital scrubs home from the hospital.

Please consider donating new sweat suits to help provide comfort to victims’ of sexual assault.  Below you will find a list of the items most needed to restock our emergency clothing cabinets.

  • Adult Sweat Suits: pants and shirts (S, M, L, XL-pants only, XXL)
  • Adult Women’s Underwear (various sizes)
  • Toddler Boys Underwear (various sizes)
  • Large Tote Bags (for carrying clothes to Emergency Department)

Charlotte Ehney on panel for Children’s Law Center Conference –

Charlotte Ehney, Children’s Advocacy Program Director, participated in the discussion panel for the Children’s Law Center training held at Lander University on Oct 14, 2015.  The all day training was entitled “A Coordinated Response for Recognizing & Reporting Child Abuse.  Other panelists pictured below included Jennifer Coaxum, Ursula Best, Ken McBride, Solicitor David Stumbo, Mary Ann Stroupe, Charlotte Ehney, and Patsy Lightle.

Advocates attend training Sept 2015

In September, Victim Advocates located throughout the state met in Columbia to learn from Yvette Roszell, SRCAC Outreach Coordinator. Ms. Roszell discussed trauma and the brain, the new NCA standards for Victim Advocates that will be effective in 2017, how to work optimally with your MDT, secondary traumatic stress and cultural competency.   Beyond Abuse advocates, Amanda Crosby and Katelen Barger attended the training.
