Become a Volunteer/Intern
Beyond Abuse offers training for volunteer advocates who wish to help those impacted by sexual violence and child abuse. During training, volunteer advocates will learn about topics concerning: Beyond Abuse services, sexual assault, child abuse, crisis intervention, vicarious trauma, prison rape, etc. All volunteers must be age 18 or older; other requirements can be found at the bottom of this page. Volunteer opportunities are as follows:
On-Call Advocates must complete an initial 27.5-hour volunteer training to learn the skills needed to provide support, information and make referrals. On-call Advocates must have transportation, access to a phone and the ability to provide victim support at local emergency departments within a 30-minute response time. On-call Advocate shifts are Monday – Thursday 5 PM – 8 AM, Friday 2 PM – 8 AM and Saturday 8 AM to Monday 8 AM. Holidays are also available.
Support Line Advocates must complete an initial 27.5-hour volunteer training to learn the skills needed to provide support, information and make referrals. Support Line Advocates must have ability to answer crisis calls after normal agency operating hours. Coverage periods are Monday – Thursday 5 PM – 8 AM, Friday 2 PM – Monday 8 AM and holidays. A crisis hotline phone is provided by the agency.
Client Services Advocates must complete an initial 6-hour volunteer training to learn the skills needed to provide administrative support during normal hours of operation. Activities include answering phones, scheduling appointments, filing and mailing documents, greeting clients, etc. Administrative Advocates are scheduled in two-hour shifts.
Volunteer Applications
All Volunteers must submit a Volunteer Application, complete a background check, adhere to the confidentiality policy, and adhere to the agencies Volunteer/Intern Commitment Agreement.

*** All volunteers and intern must comply with and pass standard National, SLED and Department of Social Services background checks.
Interns must complete the 27.5-hour on-call advocate training and a Beyond Abuse orientation. A syllabus is required and a learning contract must be completed. Interns schedules must be approved by their on-site supervisor prior to starting the internship.
Maintenance Technicians are needed to assist with interior and exterior repairs of the building as well as landscaping projects. Please contact our office at (864) 227 – 1623 for a list of needs.
