Volunteer Advocate Training – Week 1

We are looking for devoted, motivated and compassionate individuals to become Volunteer Advocates with our organization.  Our volunteers are the back bone to our organization and without them, we couldn’t do what we do on a daily basis.  This training will be held over the course of 5 days in-person (15 hours) and the remainder online (12.5 hours).  You MUST attend and complete ALL 27.5 hours to become a certified Volunteer with Beyond Abuse (this includes all in-person & online training).

Training schedule is as follows:

Tuesday, 2/7/23 from 3:00 – 6:00 pm

Wednesday, 2/8/23 from 3:00 – 6:00 pm

Thursday, 2/9/23 from 3:00 – 6:00 pm

 

The following volunteer opportunities are available within our organization:

On-call Advocate Volunteer

Position Description

Purpose: To provide emotional support and information to survivors of sexual violence and child abuse and their families.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Follow agency’s confidentiality policy
  • Accompany victims of sexual violence/child sexual abuse to the hospital providing support and information during the sexual assault evidence collection kit
  • Provide support and information to child victims’ parent(s)/caregiver(s)
  • Provide information on the FREE services available

Requirements:

  • Must be 18 or older
  • Clean Criminal Background Checks (SLED/DSS/Federal & State/Sex Offender Registry)
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Working/reliable transportation
  • Working/reliable cell phone and/or home phone
  • Volunteer Application
  • Volunteer Interview
  • Completion of initial 27.5-hour Volunteer Training

Commitment:

  • Remain with Beyond Abuse as a volunteer for six (6) months
  • Sign up for at least 4-6 on-call shifts per month

Support Line Volunteer

Position Description

Purpose: To provide emotional support and information to survivors of sexual violence and child abuse.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Follow agency’s confidentiality policy
  • Respond and provide support to caller(s) who call in crisis
  • Provide information on services available through the agency
  • Ensure safety of caller
  • Make referrals depending on callers needs
  • Complete Crisis Intervention Assessment to verify caller is safe and in no danger of committing suicide/homicide

Requirements:

  • Must be 18 or older
  • Clean Criminal Background Checks (SLED/DSS/Federal & State/Sex Offender Registry)
  • Volunteer Application
  • Volunteer Interview
  • Completion of initial 27.5-hour Volunteer Training

Commitment:

  • Remain with Beyond Abuse as a volunteer for six (6) months

Client Services Volunteer

Position Description

Purpose: Answering crisis hotline calls, directing clients to appropriate staff members, and assist in the smooth operation of the agency.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Follow agency’s confidentiality policy
  • Assist in directing callers/messages to appropriate staff members
  • Other duties assigned by supervisor

Requirements:

  • Must be 18 or older
  • Clean Criminal Background Checks (SLED/DSS/Federal & State/Sex Offender Registry)
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Working/reliable transportation
  • Volunteer Application
  • Volunteer Interview
  • Tolerant and non-judgmental of others’ lifestyles and values
  • Responsible, reliable, dependable, and readily available
  • Caring, supportive, patient, and understanding
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Able to handle stressful situations
  • Complete required training (hours of training depend on volunteer opportunity)

Commitment:

  • Remain with Beyond Abuse as a volunteer for six (6) months
  • Commit to at least 5 days a week for 1 hour each day
